Christ Church has a number of activities that all ages can enjoy and participate within:

Creative Weekly Worship for the renewal of heart and mind.  Christ Church is theologically progressive and promotes a compassionate spirituality for today’s world.

Seasonal Discussion / Study Groups seek to make meaningful connections between the Christian faith and the many complex issues of our times.

Community Life is an annual program of social activities that helps enable the church community to informally enjoy one another’s company.  Our program seeks to cater for all ages and interests.

Family Luncheon Groups meet regularly in homes around a shared meal.  They are an ideal gathering for newcomers to the community.

Children and Youth Ministry is offered via education, mentoring and various other activities on a Sunday morning.

Music:  If you have skills or just a love of music, you will find something to enjoy or be involved with at Christ Church.  Our Worship seeks a balance of styles and instrumentation.  Young people are always encouraged to participate when they are able.

A Christian Meditation Group meets at 9.00am on most Sunday mornings.

Craft:  Coffee and Conversation is enjoyed on the 4th Wednesday of each month as we share our gifts and talents with one another.

OUR VISION:
To be an inclusive and affirming community, sharing creatively the fullness of our life in Christ

The Effective Living Centre

On a weekly basis, Christ Church engages the wider community through the Effective Living Centre. Our office, which is staffed by a coordinator and volunteers, is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10.00am and 3.00pm.  We administer a good number of creative community programmes, such as:

Positive Parenting:  Professionally facilitated courses are run for parents and activities are provided for the whole family at Easter and Christmas. Information of the current year’s programme can be obtained from the office or via our website:  www.effectiveliving.org

Social Issues:  We provide forums for sharing of analysis and concerns about social justice, as well as providing practical hands-on support for various community groups.

Sacred and Creative:  ELC continues to host nationally and internationally renowned speakers who help challenge our thinking and spiritual practice. We also encourage budding artists through such events as Poet’s Corner and our annual Artist in Residence program.

Progressive Christianity Network provides educational programs and the much needed opportunity for people to freely engage the questions and doubts of their own faith experience in an atmosphere of mutual respect and acceptance.

Through the Effective Living Centre, Christ Church is an active member of the Mission Resourcing Network of the Uniting Church.

OUR HISTORY

Christ Church is a part of the Uniting Church in Australia – formed by the union of the Congregational, Methodist and Presbyterian churches in 1977.  The Christ Church Congregation began as the Unley Methodist Church and some of the tributes to our history can be found in the stained glass windows and memorials dotted around the building.  The current building was designed to provide for this congregation as well as for Parkin-Wesley College on whose ground it was built.  Parkin-Wesley College is now a part of the South Australian College of Divinity at Brooklyn Park and the Eldercare Complex now adjoins the church property.  This change gave us the opportunity to establish greater links with the local community and use our building more creatively through the Effective Living Centre, established in 1998, which is used for education and other activities.  It is a place where people come to be “empowered in the fullness and celebration of life”.

Venue Hire: The Church buildings provide a versatile air-conditioned venue for hire.  For more information contact the Office.
